Abhyanga
Ayurvedic Abhyanga Massage is different from any other type of massage. It is a full body treatment characterised by a specific sequence of strokes working directly with the lymphatic system, using copious amounts of medicated therapeutic oil chosen specific to your needs.
Abhyanga is considered such a significantly beneficial therapy, thus helping to stabilise all three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), not just on a physical level but also on a mental level.
The benefit of adding steam therapy, opens pores allowing the therapeutic medicinal herbal oil used in Abhyanga to penetrate into the tissues more deeply. Heat increases blood flow promoting healing, pain relief, softening muscles, ligaments and tendons.
Abhyanga always ends with a head massage to regulate the energy in the head, leaving you feeling grounded and relaxed.

Abhyanga with Marma (with or without steam)
Abhyanga manipulates certain marma regions throughout the body with the use of different strokes or massage techniques.
Abhyanga opens marma energy in general and makes these individual marmas more accessible and effective for treatment. Abhyanga with marma points includes applying singular pressure on these vital individual marma points for the strongest treatment level and added enhancement. At marma sites, toxins, stress, negative emotions get lodged and are held, sometimes for many years causing pain, blockage or swelling ultimately manifesting outwardly in disease symptoms.
Marmas are related to the energies of the body, mind, Prana and the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).

Shirodhara
Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment in which warmed Bala oil is heated to a specific temperature and poured in a continuous stream onto the forehead concentrating on the third eye area.
Shirodhara works to correct imbalances at a physical, mental and emotional level. It is a therapeutic and rejuvenating Ayurvedic treatment with a calming effect on the nervous system helping to restore its balance.
It is the drug-free solution to worries, anxiety, panic-attacks and all other mental and emotional problems.
When Bala oil starts pouring on the forehead at a constant flow and at a certain temperature, it stabilises Prana Vata and releases pressure as Prana Vata is responsible for the conduction of neuron to neuron in our nervous system which has become disturbed when we are feeling anxious, worried or depressed.
The treatment includes an invigorating head massage to further enhance clarity and strength to the senses as well as nourishing and supporting healthy hair.

Kati Basti
How do Basti treatments work?
Any discomfort and pain experienced in the lumbar and sacral area is deemed as a lower back problem. This is a specific treatment of musculoskeletal disorders that involve muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones, vertebrae and nerves.
Kati Basti is a therapeutic treatment where a ‘well’ made of dough is placed over the treatment site of the spine and gradually filled with medicated oil. The heated oil brings blood flow into the problem area, softness and nourishment into the tissues, relieving pain as well as allowing spinal realigning to happen through gentle manipulation.
One treatment can relieve pain and encourage better range of movement, but for more chronic conditions, a Treatment Programme is recommended and needs to be discussed with your therapist.
Symptoms associated are pain, stiffness, restricted movement and back pain.
Basti treatments prepare the problem area before doing manipulation.
The problem area is stiff, rigid, hard and dense which makes it a very sensitive area to manipulate and if the area is not properly prepared prior to manipulation there is a risk of further damaging the tissue including the nerves in that area.

Greeva Basti
Neck pain has become a common issue of the cervical spine which comprises the uppermost portion of the vertebral column. In Greeva Basti, the Basti (dough) is placed on the neck area following the same protocol as Kati Basti.
As Vata imbalance progresses, pain and stiffness emerge leading to more chronic conditions if left untreated.
Steam is an integral part of Basti treatments and helps to open the channels and alleviate pain.

Hridya Basti is a therapeutic treatment where warmed oil is retained over the heart region within a dough dam for a specific time.
This treatment is for current clients already following an Ayurvedic Treatment Plan.

Netra Basti
Netra Basti is a unique Ayurvedic treatment where the eyes are bathed in warmed Ghee inside a small dough dam placed around the eye area. It is useful for healthy eyes as a preventative from degeneration due to aging and to improve eyesight as well as treating diseases of the eye.
Netra Basti nourishes all the physiology of the eye. It goes to the cornea and gives layers of moisture to the eye.

Kizzali Bolus is a therapeutic massage that uses boluses (pouches) filled with a blend of herbs dipped in warm medicated oil used to massage the body. The heat, mix of herbs, medicated oil and massage opens the channels to loosen and draw out deep-seated ama (toxins) from the muscles, ligaments, joints, bones, and nervous system. The treatment is followed by a herbal steam opening the pores and taking the benefit even deeper.

Navara Khizzi
Navara Kizzi is a specialised massage treatment, using Navara rice and Bala Kshayam that contain medicinal properties benefiting the nervous system. The rice is cooked in milk decoction and placed in boluses (pouches) which are then dipped in a heated milk decoction used to massage the body.
This treatment is generally not given in winter due to its cooling qualities, however in some cases exceptions may be made depending on the pathology.
A light and mild steam therapy is still implemented to open the channels to allow the decoction to penetrate more deeply into channels.
Navara Kizzi massage removes ama (toxins) from the body and is also rejuvenating promoting sound sleep, strengthening the body, boosting the immune system, improving the luster and texture of the skin, removing stiffness, making the body more supple and is known for slowing down the aging process!

Udvarthanam is a therapeutic treatment that involves massaging the body with specific dry herbal powder and warm medicated Kapha oil. This combination is applied to the body in a counter clockwise direction to break stagnation and sluggishness, stimulate circulation, break down fat deposits and remove toxins (ama) from the body.
It also improves body skin complexion, cures itching, eliminates bad body odour due to excessive sweating and leads to a sense of lightness in the body.
This treatment is always followed by steam.

Nasya Karma is a procedure where medicated nasal drops are administered into each nostril followed by hot towel fomentation.

Karna Purna
Warm ear oil containing warming herbs is placed into the ear canal to treat a range of Vata related imbalances. Vata can become aggravated by cold, dry winds and irregular stimuli like mobile phones, TV, headphones, computers and loud noises. There are small bones in the inner ear called ossicles which vibrate when hit by sound waves. The bones stimulate nerve endings that transmit signals to the brain to be interpreted. All these stimuli can dry out the organ and its function is compromised and this can affect the entire Vata flow in the body. The best treatment for such aggravations is the application of warm medicated oil.
It is added as a self-care regime in Treatment Plans when needed.
This is not suitable if there is severe infection and pus leaking from the ear.
