Preventative Health Through Ayurveda at Prema Ayurveda Albany Creek, Ayurvedic Practitioner

MEET YOUR PRACTITIONER

Hi there, and welcome to Prema Ayurveda!

My name is Brigitte and I am the sole practitioner at Prema Ayurveda, a home-based Ayurvedic clinic located in Albany Creek, north of Brisbane.

Health and fitness has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.  Years ago, as a group fitness instructor, teaching up to ten classes a week, diving into raw food trends and blending up green smoothies every morning, were what I believed to be healthy habits.  But if I knew then what I have come to learn through the wisdom of Ayurveda, I would have approached things differently.

Whether you are  living with chronic conditions or just feeling a bit out of rhythm, Ayurveda’s strength lies in recognising that we are all unique and that lasting change begins with understanding and supporting your body’s natural intelligence.

My journey into Ayurveda began whilst hearing about it at Ashtanga Yoga Shala in Brisbane (AYS marked the beginning of my real understanding of yoga) and I went on to complete the Diploma of Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultancy and the Advanced Diploma of Ayurvedic Practitioner at the Australian Institute of Ayurvedic Studies with Dr Ajit.

Ayurveda and Yoga have enriched my life in ways I never imagined possible. I love both – they truly go hand in hand, sharing the same philosophy: a spiritual path toward self-realisation and a life lived in harmony with nature, the body, and the self.

But you do not need to be on a spiritual quest to benefit from Ayurveda.  You may just want to feel better in your everyday life and Ayurveda meets you where you are whether you are suffering from hormonal imbalance, chronic fatigue, tackling IBS, anxiety, depression, arthritis, diabetes or finally get a good night’s sleep – you get the idea!

My intention is to hold a warm and supportive space where healing can take place, and where ancient wisdom meets the realities of modern life.

If you would like to know more you can book a complimentary 15 MINUTE CHAT or if you are ready BOOK INITIAL CONSULTATION or come and enjoy Abhyanga massage the treatment I recommend as a starting point for body treatments BOOK MASSAGE.

Awareness-Transformation-Balance

I look forward to supporting your journey!

WHAT IS AYURVEDA?

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term combining Ayur (life) and Veda (knowledge or science), translating to the “Science of Life”.  It is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems, developed in India over 5,000 years ago.

Ayurveda originated from the Vedas (oldest texts of Vedic knowledge) of ancient India, where sages known as rishis or seers developed this knowledge through deep meditation and spiritual practices.  These insights were initially passed down orally and later documented in sacred texts known as Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva Vedas.

While the Atharva Veda provides a foundation of Ayurveda, much of the core knowledge of Ayurveda is found in later texts like the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridayam.

These texts provide detailed information on various aspects of Ayurveda, including diagnosis, treatments, herbal medicine, anatomy, nutrition, preventive care, surgery, mental and emotional wellbeing and rejuvenation therapies, providing a complete and holistic system that can meet all of our requirements to lead a healthy and happy life.

How does Ayurveda work?

There are three intelligences working in our body known as Vata, Pitta, Kapha (Doshas)

The Doshas are a reflection of the five elements called Panchamahabhutas which are Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth.   These elements along with their associated qualities create the functions of the Doshas and govern all activities of life and all functioning in the body.

Vata governs all movement in the body and mind including breath, circulation, and nerve impulses and the movement of thoughts.  It is responsible for blinking, the beating of the heart, mental activity and even our sense of enthusiasm.

Pitta is responsible for transformations, digestion and conversion within the body.  It governs the absorption and assimilation of food and regulates our body temperature.  Pitta creates hunger and thirst as well as the lustre of our skin and brightness of our eyes.

Kapha holds things together by providing cohesion, structure, stability and lubrication.  It binds cells, tissues and organs and gives the body its form and strength.  Kapha maintains moisture and lubrication which protects joints, nourishes tissues and prevents friction of joints.  It also gives emotional steadiness.

The balance of these three Doshas at the time of conception defines an individual’s constitution (Prakruti). Throughout one’s life, an individual’s Prakruti remains the same but is influenced by internal and external factors like the environment that we live in, diet, seasonal changes, lifestyle choices, how we behave, act or react, our attitudes and emotions.

When we make wrong choices our bodily intelligence becomes affected and accumulation of toxins or free radicals (Ama) begins to build up in the system. Problems start to happen causing an imbalance (Vrikriti) of the Doshas. This can lead to all types of various early signs and symptoms of an imbalance leading to bigger health issues and eventually disease if corrective measures are not implemented to dispel accumulated Ama. The goal of Ayurveda is to restore balance and to realign the Doshas.

HOW DOES AYURVEDA RESTORE BALANCE?

Healing with Ayurveda is a gradual and transformative process, not a quick fix. The time it takes to restore balance depends on the chronicity of a person’s condition.

Working with your Ayurvedic Practitioner, you will:

Ayurveda is a deep cleansing process and if followed consistently and sincerely, it can lead to lasting change and restore the functioning of the Doshas bringing them back to balance leaving you feeling lighter, clearer and more energised.

Not only will you feel empowered to take an active role in your own health but your overall quality of life improves bringing a renewed joy for living.
